OMNIpac manufactures a range of plastic products specifically designed for packaging bananas, including a blue, thin micron, box liner in either high- or low-density film and multi-punched interleaf sheeting. These products are designed to protect the banana hands from rubbing against each other to prevent bruising.

During their growing process, banana bunches are covered with different coloured plastic tubing while still on the plant. This cover serves to alter the micro-environment around the bunch i.e. controlling temperature, humidity and insect infestation, as well as part of the system ensuring bunches are picked at their optimum harvesting time.

These plastic bags contain high levels of additives designed to protect the polythene from the effects of ultra violet light, which can cause the release of free radicle ethylene molecules, which destroy the long chain molecules of the polymer, causing brittleness and premature destruction of the plastic.

Cucumber shrink-wrap manufactured by OMNIpac is micro perforated. This plastic not only protects the thin skin of continental cucumbers from physical damage but also allows the cucumber to transpire excess moisture. The tight film around the cucumber also prevents the cucumber coming into contact with ethylene gasses released by any other nearby fruit, as this can cause over-ripening.

By creating a micro-climate around the cucumber, the plastic raises the levels of carbon dioxide and reduces oxygen levels extending shelf life of the produce.

OMNIpac manufactures plastic box liner bags using either low density or high-density polyethylene or a blend of the two depending on the requirements of the product to be packed.

The thinner box liners, around 15 to 25 micron, are normally used for dust and other contaminant protection, whilst thicker bags are used to contain water spillage should the primary packaging medium be damaged. These bags are usually used in the aquaculture industry where products are packed either in water or ice.
